Farm Business Financial Management for Dry Seasons
Places are still available for the “Farm Business Financial Management for Dry Seasons” Workshops which start this month .
The purpose of these workshops is to boost awareness and capability in farm business planning, risk management and financial literacy and provide options during dry seasonal conditions.
These workshops are available to farm businesses in regions currently experiencing drought and dry seasonal conditions. See locations and dates below and the attached fliers for more details.
The workshops will include: an overview of financial literacy, analysing and improving the performance of a farm business, understanding and managing risk, planning for profit, evidence-based decision making.
One follow-up individual consultation will be available to workshop participants to provide further support.
Cherry Export Workshop

To ensure export readiness and compliance to importing country requirements, attendance at this two day event is mandatory for all mainland cherry growers and packers ahead of registrations for the 2019-20 season. You must attend the workshop to be export registered.

Freshcare survey
Freshcare is conducting a survey of its major stakeholders to gather valuable feedback to ensure it is well positioned to support the needs of industry into the future.
The survey is open for 2 weeks and is estimated to take 5-10 minutes of the participants time.
Addressing Non-tariff Barriers to Trade
Australia is a trading nation, and committed to open markets. In 2017, Australia’s two-way trade surged to a record $763 billion, with exports accounting for more than $386 billion.
Non-tariff barriers can be any kind of ‘red tape’ or trade rules that unjustifiably restrict the flow of goods and services.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking involvement from exporters as part of the department's action plan to reduce non-tariff trade barriers.
Changes to air cargo security
The Australian Government is implementing security measures to strengthen Australia’s international outbound air cargo security in response to evolving threats.
The initiatives include piece-level examination for all outbound international cargo from 1 March 2019. All outbound international air cargo, regardless of destination, must:
- Be examined by a Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA) in accordance with an Enhanced Air Cargo Examination (EACE) notice; or
- Originate from a Known Consignor.

Those of us who have been enjoying some beautiful Australian cherries over summer would be largely unaware of the very significant challenges mainland growers face when it comes to exporting fruit.

Celebrating the Launch of Mainland Australian Cherries in China!
Australia is reportedly on track for a record cherry crop in the 2018/19 season, the first in which significant volumes of mainland Australia cherries will be sent by air freight to China. The New South Wales Department of Primary Industries held an Australian Cherry Launch event in Shanghai on November 6 to celebrate the new market access and give potential Chinese buyers a taste of this year's early season cherries freshly flown in from Australia. Key fruit purchasers told Produce Report they are excited about the availability of high-quality Australian cherries earlier in the southern hemisphere season.
The cherry is finally on top in China
For the first time, Chinese consumers will be able to enjoy the freshest cherries from NSW orchards within four days of harvest.
Minister for Primary Industries, Trade and Industry, Niall Blair made the announcement at a supermarket in Guangzhou, where the first air freighted cherries were ready to be sold.
